Fun-Fact*: Did you know that Holy Basil can pull fluoride from your tap water? Supposedly it can. Researchers from, the University of Rajasthan, in India placed 75 mg of Holy Basil leaves in 100ml of water that contained over 7 ppm (parts per million) of fluoride. After soaking the leaves in the water for just 8 hours, the fluoride was reduced to just 1.1 ppm.
Flat-Fact: Fluoride exposure can contribute to ADD/ADHD and depressed thyroid function, among other things you don’t want to happen to your body.
*The Fun-Fact may be true, but I couldn’t find the research paper to validate it. I searched the net and the University of Rajasthan’s website. There are tons of Facebook and blog re-posting, but none with a data-source listed. Still, holy basil (tulsi –Ocimum sanctum) is the “The Queen of Herbs” – the most sacred herb of India, and we love it!
