“Disease is just a lack of doing what it takes to create health” – Dr. Ettinger
Written into its constitution in 1946, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined ‘health’ this way, “health is a state of COMPLETE physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (physical or mental weakness).
What I do as a functional medicine practitioner is to help a patient bring their body back into stable equilibrium (homeostasis). I do this by coaching the patient in the five areas that have the greatest impact on their state of health, due to their ability to turn on or off genes (epigenetic influence). These five areas are diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and nutritional supplementation. When these five areas are IN, health as defined above is promoted. When one or more of these areas are OUT, disease or infirmity, to a greater or lesser degree will be the result.
As I’ve said many times, “If you are not testing, you will only be guessing.” The road to health starts with a thorough assessment. A comprehensive set of laboratory tests, including blood type, is the optimum starting point. The evaluation of these tests will then be combined with a patient’s dietary, lifestyle, and body system questionnaires, as well as an in-depth consultation and examination. All of that data will then be interpreted and put into a coherent and user-friendly, treatment protocol.
The protocol will focus on optimizing sleep, diet, exercise, stress reduction and targeted nutritional supplementation. If a medication is warranted, recommendations will be made to address that as well. Even though I don’t prescribe medication, I do stay up to date with the latest in pharmacology.
It’s really not hard to get or stay healthy and it’s really not hard to get or stay diseased or infirmed. It’s merely a lifestyle choice one makes – move toward health or move toward disease? There is no middle ground here. If you choose not to get blood tested on a routine basis, there is absolutely no way you can know what is going on inside of your body. You can’t fix a problem if you don’t know a problem exists. It’s also difficult to maintain health or prevent disease without routine testing. Like blood testing, if you choose not to follow a routine of proper sleep, diet, exercise and stress reduction, health is hard to achieve or maintain. You would never buy a new car and drive it indefinitely, without ever performing routine maintenance. Would you? So, why would you do that with your body? It makes no sense but that’s what I see on a routine basis.
If a state of physical, mental and social wellbeing is a goal of yours then all of the above needs to be done and dialed-in. Even if you are already following a good diet, exercising… there is no way of knowing how it’s affecting your health without the blood testing component. I can help, if interested, with testing as well as help you dial-in any or all of the five areas listed above. Comprehensive testing runs from $215 – $400 my cost. That’s $1,550 – $2,000+ through insurance. I also have a new company that will bill insurance for your labs. The blood must be drawn in LA or Orange county and there are limited draw stations. Please contact me if interested.
P.S. I’m curious to know how many of 2,500 people who will receive this email not only have all 5 areas dialed-in but routinely lab test to validate their protocol and/or use the data to make any needed changes. If you do this, please email me and share your wins, experiences, favorite tests, diet, sleep aids, exercises, stress reduction techniques, supplements… Share as little are as much as you would like. So, how many of you are doing this. Thank you in advance.
