Dr. Marcus Ettinger is the owner of the Advanced Healing Center of Orange County and is a 1989 graduate of Southern California University of Health Sciences. In Addition to his doctorate in Chiropractic, Dr. Ettinger also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology and has been the Chief Science Officer for the California Academy of Health since 1996.
All clients who utilize Dr. Ettinger for chiropractic care fall into one of three categories: Pain Relief Chiropractic Care (PRCC), Spinal Correction Chiropractic Care (SCCC), or Wellness Chiropractic Care (WCC). All three categories have an obvious purpose and a logical treatment plan.
Pain Relief Chiropractic Care (PRCC):
90-95% of all individuals who seek out chiropractic care do so because they are in pain and want to eliminate it as fast as possible. Dr. Ettinger’s initial goal with any new patient is to handle their immediate concerns. “Most of my chiropractic patients are coming in to see me because they are in acute pain, and it’s my immediate duty, as a doctor, to get them pain-free.” The first step all new patients go through is a thorough examination and x-rays (only if necessary). This first step is crucial and enables Dr. Ettinger to determine the extent of the patient’s problem and to help design a precise treatment plan, which will yield the quickest and most effective results. “Even though ‘pain’ is only a symptom of something more underlying, I feel it’s my responsibility as a doctor to respect the wishes of a patient if they only request Pain Relief Chiropractic Care.”
During this phase of care, a chiropractic patient will be educated and enlightened about his/her present physical condition, chiropractic philosophy, and the benefits of proper diet and exercise. Most patients, once educated on these benefits, choose to pursue additional care. This category of care will be either Spinal Correction Chiropractic Care (SCCC) or Wellness Chiropractic Care (WCC). (Weight training, for the relief of low back pain)
Spinal Corrective Chiropractic Care (SCCC):
Once a patient is out of pain and is satisfied with their present state of spinal health, they usually choose to continue further with a focus on “correction care” rather than “symptom management.” This category of care is known as Spinal Corrective Chiropractic Care (SCCC). (SCCC) has a goal and focus on correcting long-term musculoskeletal imbalances and vertebral misalignment (subluxations*) that may predispose the client to experience early degenerative arthritis, muscle strains, ligament strains, and/or pinched nerves. These same imbalances also lead to chronic aches and pains, as well as a reduction in range of motion, reduction in productivity, and a reduced quality of life.
Dr. Ettinger will create an exact plan of action based on the initial examination findings and the client’s progress through Pain Relief Chiropractic Care. Periodic reexaminations are performed, and the program is modified based on the additional data.
“As far as I am concerned, (SCCC) and (WCC) are the two most important categories of chiropractic care. Getting a patient out of pain is very important to me, as is a client receiving routine Corrective or Wellness Chiropractic Care. But, if correction is not achieved at some point, then pain is going to be a reoccurring phenomenon and the routine Corrective or Wellness adjustments will be far less effective. Knowledge is power, and with knowledge comes control. If a patient is better able to take control of their health, in a preventative fashion, then the likelihood of illness, injury and/or disease are drastically reduced.”
Wellness Chiropractic Care (WCC):
Once the correction has been achieved, most patients usually choose to continue with periodic ‘wellness’ chiropractic adjustments. “After 28+ years as a chiropractor, I have found that over 90% of my patients who complete their (SCCC) choose to continue with chiropractic as part of their overall wellness lifestyle.”
Wellness Chiropractic Care can be weekly, bi-weekly or a once monthly chiropractic check-up and adjustment. (WCC) has a goal and focus of spotting tiny problems and correcting them before they turn into big ones. “On Earth, we have this thing called gravity and our body is constantly being affected by it. Work, play, and bad postural habits can also affect our body in a negative way. This constant insult to our nervous and musculoskeletal system can cause imbalances that, if left unchecked, can create disease and pain within our body. (WCC) is a very inexpensive and profound preventative medicine modality and will reap rewards beyond measure.” 11 Easy Rules to Follow for a Healthier Back.
I truly look forward to being your chiropractor.
Yours in good health,

*Subluxation: is a chiropractic term that is used to describe a myriad of signs and symptoms (syndrome) thought to occur as a result of a misaligned or dysfunctional spinal segment. The chiropractic subluxation complex is a functional biomechanical spinal abnormality with a purported altered neurological function that can result in disorders or diseases involving the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, internal organs, and/or endocrine system.
B. J. Palmer emphatically stated that:
“Chiropractors have found in every disease that is supposed to be contagious, a cause in the spine. In the spinal column, we will find a subluxation that corresponds to every type of disease. If we had one hundred cases of smallpox, I can prove to you where, in one, you will find a subluxation, and you will find the same conditions in the other ninety-nine. I adjust one and return his functions to normal…. There is no contagious disease…. There is no infection…. There is a cause internal to man that makes of his body in a certain spot, more or less a breeding ground [for microbes]. It is a place where they can multiply, propagate, and then because they become so many, they are classed as a cause.”
