The relationship between cannabidiol and the mitochondria
Cannabidiol – CBD – is the most abundant and powerful, non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis. The compound cannabidiol possesses profound medical benefits, Not only will CBD not make you feel “stoned”, it can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC. CBD-rich strains of cannabis are non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC-dominant strains, which makes it a far better option for looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, and muscle spasms.
Cannabinoids have their effect mainly by interacting with specific receptors on cells in the brain and body: the CB1 receptor, found on neurons and glial cells in various parts of the brain, and the CB2 receptor, found mainly in the body’s immune system.
Scientific evidence and clinical research, much of it sponsored by the US government, underscores CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, cancer, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders. CBD has demonstrable neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and elsewhere.
Clinical observation:
Using Applied Kinesiology (AK), a form of muscle response testing, I tested cannabidiol (CBD oil) against all organ-points and cross-referenced various nutrient combinations. One of my observations was that CBD oil is energetically superior to the nutrient combination of Acetyl-L-Carnitine; CoQ10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid for strengthening, active (weak) adrenal, heart and cerebellum test points. Only Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) muscle tested equal to CBD on all points.
Patients tested only had the cerebellum, heart and/or adrenal points active. Shared features of each patient tested were: the past or current use of psychotropic medications, headaches, insomnia, lack of energy/fatigue and poor healing.
Conclusion:
My conclusion is that CBD oil somehow:
- Modulates or facilitates mitochondrial function.
- Facilitates the proper utilization of compounds that are used to fuel the mitochondria as well as make ATP within the mitochondria.

Can CBD be used while taking Alpha-lipoid acid?
This is not medical advice. I don’t see why not.
Hi im a mitochondrial myopathy patient. Currently using cbd brand canabidol. Around 23 mg per day, what is the best combination and dosing for maximum and how can i get them online.
Could it help the respiratory system?
Thanks in advance.

Wadih,
I am unable to give dosing recommendation. CoQ10, intermittent fasting, resistance training combined with cardio, getting your GI tract in tip-top shape and finding a good functional medicine coach would be my recommendation.

My name is Allan Frankel. I am an Internist and cannabis specialist in Santa Monica. I have written about “mito” disease and cannabinoids. I believe that THC-Acid may have even more mitochondrial effects.
Dr. Frankel,
Thank you very much for the comment. Yes, I love THCA (fresh pressed cannabis juice). The bummer is that most people don’t have access to enough fresh product to get daily dosing. I’m sure you have a purified source that is more readily available and can be dosed more accurately. The combination of THCA, from fresh, and CBD, from hybrid flower, would most undoubtedly be an amazing, mitochondrial-boosting, combination!
I look forward to speaking with you.

Dr. Ettinger
Can CBD oil alone help with insomnia or doesn’t the cbd oil need to have small amounts of THC?
Tanya,
Handling sleep issues can be tough but not impossible. There are so many factors and chemicals that are involved. If you are trying CBD for that purpose it may work alone or it may need to have some TCH in it. All you can do is experiment and see what works and what doesn’t. Here is some information that might help you to get a better nights sleep. https://advancedhealing.com/13-ways-to-achieve-a-perfect-nights-sleep-kirk-parsley/
